Check This Out! im the richest man in the world

the thought that allways excites me is that once youve decided to be a student of music how much money you have doesnt give any one an advantage i can be just as dedicated and committsed to learning music as any other person in the world so who needs money in this respect i feel just like the richest man in the world does

Of course, Ritchie Rich in your class is playing his Super 400 through a Tweed Twin

I hope you know I'm joking here! In fact, I was thinking of the Bhutan, where they are trying to use happiness rather than GDP as a measure of the country's well-being.

now, that's an urban legend. we all know joe pass never stopped playingWhen I first started learning jazz, I was so overwhelmed, until it dawned on me-- I will never be bored with guitar playing again...there will ALWAYS be something else to learn.

Around 1980, I spent two years pursuing a B. Mus. in classical guitar performance. There were about 15 or so guitar students, most of them right out of High School, but myself and two others were in our 30s, FWIW. At one of the early group gatherings, one of the kids said to one of us veterans, "Wow, you have a Ramirez, you must be good." His response: "no, it just means I could afford to buy one."
Same thing with Ritchie Rich.

You bet. As long as you limit the world to my basement practice room.

thats right. you can be very poor, study classical or jazz, become a very solid player and even teacher with a MM or Phd! and remain quite poor.

oops. that's a little depressing.

ignore me.

This is really true observation. Just about anything that requires artistic expression is a great leveler of men and is rarely dependent on material wealth, relatively speaking, of course. It's about passion, discipline, persistence, and hard work. You cannot buy your way to virtuosity.

I feel exactly the same way! Does anyone spend their whole day figuring out ways of substituting different minor pentatonic scales over a static dominant 7th chord? That's the kind of learning that I love about jazz...you could never really milk the barrel dry
