Default Greetings

Hi everybody
I joined this site a few days back, so i thought i'd stop being slack and introduce myself. My name is Charlie and i live on the east coast of Australia (about 30k out of Coffs Harbour if that means anything to anyone -though i think there are some compatriots here).
I really like the international feel to this place with people from all over the world posting here - Europe, Asia and America etc. Music is a universal language - bit like Esperanto (better really).
My guitar playing could be described as somewhat primitive. But i just love playing it. For years i have owned a copy of the Mickey Baker book and use some of the chords in there, though i have never got round to studying it properly. I like just making stuff up and find learning tabs of other people's stuff a little dry - or maybe i'm just too lazy!
Anyway i am hoping to expand my horizons and learn some new things that i could use, so i joined this site.
Gotta go - theres visitors outside.
catch ya later
cheers Charlie (chook)

Welcome to the site Chook.

If you're thinking of getting into the Mickey Baker method, you might want to check out these threads:

Many thanks for all that.

Dunno if I'll embark on a course with Mickey or not yet. Although it was interesting to hear what some of the more advanced stuff in his book actually sounds like ... I'd often wondered.

Oh yeah i think theres a patricia living in Sydney I'll have to check.

in my own very long and tiring experience over the years i believe you learn from many different sources not just one method i tend to read everything i can and have had lessons with a few different teachers and talked to as many musicians as ican . then i take what ithink are the best bits from each and hopefully put them together with my own ideas this of coarse is how it works for me i think everyone learns in their own unique way which is why i think books should be used as guides and not the holy grail just my opinion for what its worth
