Guitar Estadounidense in Mexico CIty

How´s it goin´everyone,,,just wonderin´if there are any players lookin´for jammin´buddies in Mexico CIty? I´ve been playing blues, rock and metal a long time, plenty of live experience, been studying hard on theory for about 2 years, but would say that I´m at an Intermediate jazz level. I´m from the U.S., and will be here for several months, longer, possibly, so just give me a shout...or I might see you elsewhere! In general, I´d like to exchange with anyone at all, at any level, even just through this website. Just respond to this thread, man!

"Estadounidense" - funny, I am learning Spanish right now and I just read this word yesterday and thought it sounded very strange. It's a bit like saying "United Stater" I gather?

Well, I just got here, and I´ve checked out one club so far, The Club Zinco. To see who´s up for the week, you can check out the site here: Zinco Jazz Club

Lonnie Smith Trio, Tom Kessler Trio, Ottis Ganceda (originally from Mazatlan, Mex.), and Adrian Terrazas Gonzalez (records with Mars Volta, plays tenor sax and flute), Oscar Stagnaro (bassist from Peru) have all been here in the past coupla weeks, I see. I´ve checked out some of their websites. There are other clubs, a few others that I´ve seen in the nightlife mags, but I haven´t made it their yet. A coupla blues clubs too, gonna check them out. There´s a small scene in Guadalajara for jazz and blues as well, although I suspect not quite as large as here.
I saw Ottis Ganceda with some local players as the Hard Bop Quintet the other night, and they were impressive, to me, an intermediate player with little knowledge of ´the jazz scene.´ (I´ve been playing guitar by ear for years and years, but only in the past two have I studied theory and only jazz for the past 4 months or so, mind you!) So right now I´m just checking out for some musicians around the schools who want to play and learn and have good fun doing so. There are a few schools around for jazz study on various instruments, one of which is of good repute (at least here in Mexico, as I understand) called the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, a fine arts school.
So yeah, there´s some stuff happenin´.
Kansas City area, eh? Tell me as well, how´s the scene there? I´m from Pennsylvania, but I lived over that way around the St. Louis area for a while...

Goofsus4, hey, yeah, `estadounidense`means person from the U.S. It´s a more specific way to say you are `an American citizen` than just saying `americano` or `norteamericano,` since Mexico is also part of the North American continent. If you ever have any questions, slang, whatever, I´ve got a pretty good grasp of the language and different colloquialisms around Latin America, so email me, man: some_gate@yahoo.com
