| | Hey, Hey, Whadaya Say Hi there.
I'm not really a new guy, I joined a long time ago but never posted anything. I just "listened" and gathered info as I converted my self from a Bassist to an honest to goodness jazz guitarist. I got a note in my email today to come back so I upadated my profile and will jump on back in. |

| | Heyup Bassman 808, What did you mostly play and listen to while you were headlong into bass? What was the motivation for you to pick up a six-string? I'm a newcomer to this community. |

| | Its hard to be a solo act with a bass. I was never any good at piano and I always knew my way around a guitar so I went heavy into a couple of years ago.
My musical intrest run the entire spectrum. In jazz I'm into Mingus, Miles, Coltrane, MJQ, Mose Allison. Its all pretty dated stuff but hell, Beethoven died 183 years ago and I'm still into his stuff. I like to think I am open minded about music. Besides the feel of jazz I like the idea of playing (and writing) songs without words. |

| | Hey bassman808, Nice to see bass players. I started on bass too many years ago to mention! Do you find that your standing in bass has effected your guitar playing? I find I like a warm sounding guitar with punch for lead lines and melody and my improvising wanders around the bottom end which sounds okay but just lately I've pushed into the upper register.
Oh, and I'm always the one who switches to bass when there are unadventurous guitar players around, a real drag! |

| | I know what you mean. I play on the bottom end in both blues and jazz. I never developed a good pick style on the guitar either. I got a "pizzicato fingerstyle" from playing double bass. I play the strings the way I do on a bass guitar. Its a good sound on my Gibson archtop but I am still working on it on my other guitars. I use those in other music genres though where I usually play rhythm. Once a continuo man, always a continuo man. jazz, barouque, rock. It don't matter. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
