Newbie! Bluegrass/Cajun Musician entering the electric blues/jazz/rock phase!

I have been playing serious acoustic guitar/banjo/diatonic accordion for 40 years (folk/bluegrass/old time/cajun) but have always harbored a guilty pleasure for the electric world. I'm looking forward learning from you guys.

I've already had fun with the 12 bar blues in the beginners forum.

I am located in Dallas, TX.

I thought I put this in my profile and assumed it would be listed next to my posting. I'll recheck to make sure I did it correctly.

For anyone I have confused. To elaborate on my cryptic reference. The 12 bar blues is in a posting by Sailor in the Getting Started thread entitled "Sailors new teacher". I've had a lot of fun with it. (OKOK I know, I need to get out more.)

Thanks for the tip. 6.3 million in the metro, and that's it, just one cool store?

Cool, accordian. Are you familiar with Julien Labro? He's scary good.

You've got your standard selection of Guitar Centers scattered around DFW but I'm sure that's not what you're looking for. I would imagine there are other cool places like Charley's but that's the only one I know since it's in my neck of the woods (6.3MM people cover a lot of space). Hey, SRV hung out at Charley's. Their on-site luthier did wonders for my '65 Guild 12 string. Lots of vintage stuff, etc. Well, anyway, that's my 2 cents. Hope you can check it out.

Let me know if you find any other hidden gems during your stay.

One more thing. FYI

Lyle Mays is playing with the One O'clock Lab Band at UNT in Denton (just north of Dallas) next Thursday night the 25th. I'm sure it's going to be amazing.

Bummer. I am free during the day, working evenings. If I run across any place else, I will let you know.

My accordian was made by Larry Miller. I studied with Steve Bing for a while before he moved from Houston to LA. Don't play as much as I'd like but still love the music. Not familiar with Mr. Labro. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

It looks like Mr. Labro plays a three row diatonic accordion which is more complex than the cajun melodeon. Steve Riley (a cajun himself) is a virtuoso on the instrument that I attempt to play. Here is an example of the classic two step common in cajun music. Check it out.

YouTube - Steve Riley Accordion Teaser

BTW. He plays instruments made by his also famous cousin Mark Savoy.

But I digress...time to get back to my 12 bar blues.

The Lyle Mays concert was remarkable. At one point I counted 28 musicians on stage! Sorry you couldn't make it.

Did you have any luck in your search for guitar store gems?
