Default the j00b from OZ!

hi guys, i've been lurking a bit on this site for a few months now and have finally decided to take the time to introduce myself.

my name is Nathan and i'm from brisbane australia, my journey into jazz has been pretty fairly long and winding so far i think. the main thing that attracted me to the style was the focus on improvisation, and as i delved into the many artists within the genre the initial standouts for me were allan holdsworth and john mclaughlin.

i began teaching myself to play guitar in a punk rock band when i was 17, and my taste quickly progressed to metal and then progressive music (univers zero, tool, ephel duath, kayo dot and many others). my initial music training was in classical piano, which is something i would have loved to pursue further but i didn't get the chance due to my family moving very often.

i used to take pride in my theory knowledge, but after perusing the topics in the musical theory forum i think i may need to do a little more practice and reading hahaha! a vast wealth of knowledge, that's for sure. greetings to you all, and i look forward to learning a great deal in my time hear

Nathan
