Newbie! Nooby G'Day

Hi All,

Just discovered this site, thought I'd introduce myself.

I've only just really gotten into jazz for the last year or so. I like the smooth sort of sounds like George Benson style and Salsa Rosso (whatever that is, from iTunes, I bought that). But I also like rockabilly which can feature some great extensions and intervals (double-stops). Especially Hillbilly Hellcats and Brian Setzer.

I am in love with the major 7 chord, love diminished chords, m7b5's. I'm loving chromatism and hope to pick up here how to get some smooth jazz tone out of the Ibanez Artcore I bought last year, although I am discovering there is more to jazz tone than f holes!

So I'm a newby here and to jazz generally. Any hints on getting that mellow tone, who to listen to, beautiful chords to try, etc, gratefully received.

Funkify!
Noodler

Hello Noodler....
I would heartily recommend Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Tal Farlow,Jimmy Bruno, Herb Ellis ...along with the Great American Songbook. This, to me
is a good way to improve your jazz hearing especially with tunes you love.
ENJOY JAZZ.....The Earl of Soco
