I play guitar and piano (guitar is my main instrument.) I'm into a lot of stuff, but my favorite is sort of more modern stuff - Joshua Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Potter, Avishai Cohen, Vijay Iyer, Aaron Parks, stuff like that. I'm also really into older stuff too, but I'm up for checking out anything new usually as well. What about you? Do you have any recordings of your music or anything? Do you compose much?

I've got some recordings on my website of a new trio I just started playing with. They're nothing special - just ran into the studio and recorded some tunes to try to get a demo together, but you get the idea.

Wow - what a kind response! I'm honored that you enjoyed the music so much.

Where are you located geographically? You mentioned that I was "so far away" and it just got me wondering where you're from.

Sure!

Well, I grew up in a small town called Westfield, NY. Out of high school I went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, actually on a mandolin scholarship of all things. I was very much into the new acoustic music scene, and wanted to pursue that path. When I got to college though, I remember first semester I heard the album "Like Someone in Love - Live in Toronto," by Paul Desmond - with Ed Bickert on guitar. It changed my life. I'd never heard the guitar played that way. So I switched my major to guitar almost instantly and studied guitar for a year and a half there. I'm in my junior year now, and I just transferred this fall to Hope College in Holland, MI. It's a really small school - but the jazz faculty is great and I'm getting a lot more opportunities to gig and a lot more one-on-one attention.

So I'm a junior in college living in Western Michigan, to make a long story short. Haha. What about you? What's your story?

well im 45 years old istarted playing viola at 8 years old in school and carried this on until i was 15 when all my mates if you can call them that took the mickey out of me so gave that up and have regretted that ever since allways wondering where that might have led me however the up side of that was i then started playing guitar in1980 after getting into believe it or not punk music my first band was a punk band but i kept getting into trouble for trying to play too technical so i left it was about then i discovered peter green after seeing him mentioned in a tutorial book something about his music just seemed to grab hold of me and move me that was it i spent years playing fleetwod mac and john mayals blues breakers songs unfortunately i wasnt able to go to music collage as i had to go out and work to support myself my parents believed music was a waste of time and even once me that groups and bands never get anywhwere when i said what about eric clapton was told that was different because he was famous so i am self taught however due to health problems iam now disabled and unable to work which has finally given me time to spend on my music study so i am now working though my music theory grades studying from home with the london collage of music and as i mentioned earlier i am a complete theory junkie and a self confessed obsessive jazz student which i think you have to be if you want to become a competant jazz player do you have a time when you go online it is twenty to five here at the moment what time is it where you are

Hey gingerjazz, FYI I watched a few episodes of Last Of The Summer Wine here in Washington, DC. I found it hilarious. I had the opportunity to visit the city of York years ago and walk the wall before enjoying a night in the pubs with some locals. Didn't hear any jazz, though.
