Default Like with wine an cheese

Hello dear community,

After having been reading on this forum for some couple days, I think this is a good place and so I registered and introduce myself here.

My name is Mike and I live in Germany. I have been playing the guitar for approx. 20 years, mostly Rock & Blues. I professionally worked in the musical branch for 4 years.

Why am I here? Well, in my younger guitar days I was a "guitar athlete" - fast, furious, looking for the kick

With becoming older, my musical "taste bulbs" started enjoying also other kinds of music. It's like with wine and cheese, you have to reach a certain maturity to be able to appreciate the subtle graduations of taste to appreciate the mastery and craftsmanship behind the "product". To me it was no other with music than with....well.....wine and cheese...

Over the past few years I have played a lot of Gospel gigs and also al ot of gigs in a duo, with a female singer at my side. I always loved Jazz guitar, especially Christmas songs in jazzy versions - there is so much deepness to them, all these beautiful chords and lines - this is real music to my ears and I know this is what I want to be able to play, too!
I have found out that a lot of times I was confronted with notation, especially for the Gospel arrangments. I knew time had to come, where I had to learn reading and writing music in a proper way. Fortunately, I had acquired a good knowledge of theory, so the step I am taking now is just the one and only logic step - I am about to go the whole hog and I think this forum here is a nice and friendly place to stay when you are interested in some serious Jazz guitar playing.

For the start I have ordered William Leavitts books (A modern method...1-3) and I hope I will learn to read and write music pretty soon. I am a hard worker concerning the guitar.

So far so good

Mike

welcome aboard mike.

pick up a real book as a supplement to those leavitt books too, will ya? learning some tunes to work on those reading chops will keep you more interested, i think.

the leavitt books are butt kickers, and they will most definitely work, but they're a little dry. kinda like cheese without the wine!
