Hello all:

Sometimes it is difficult even for me to believe but I have been playing guitar for more than 50 years. I'm originally Canadian and my original instrument was Alto Sax but I had a guitar around the house since the late 1950's. I have had the pleasure of having taken lessons from a couple of Jazz Guitar Greats, Rene Thomas in Montreal when I was a university student and Tal Farlow in New Jersey when I lived in Philadelphia. Don't get too excited since I am a pretty pedestrian guitarist who didn't really gain much from these masters. Still it was amazing to hear and see them play privately and an experience I will never forget. I do listen to and sometimes play other music but I have been a dedicated jazz fan since the late 50's - arguably the best period in the history of jazz. I have lived (with my Italian wife) in Italy for many years. We're not too far from the Umbria Jazz Festival which I look forward to every year.

Default welcome

Welcome to the forum Woody! Rene Thomas was one of my personal favorites, played much like Jimmy Raney.
