 Just Another Newbie
My Name is Johnny Z, I've been playing guitar for about 50 years. I was never a really good Rock Guitarist, but grew up playing in seveal garage bands in S. Cal.. My first encounter with Jazz guitar was when I was about 16 seeing a Christmas concert with Herb Ellis, which my dad recorded (I still have the tape). From that moment on I knew I wanted to play Jazz guitar. I didn't realy know anything about Jazz and really didn't play guitar very well. I continued to play Rock, Country, and Blues through High School and into College, and still do. Every chance I got to learn something Jazzy I jumped on it. I took some basic guitar lessons from some teachers when I was a kid, but mostly learned by ear and from books and records. My main guitar style is finger style chord melody. I'm not an expert on music theory or anything, I just like playing guitar and sometimes frequent the local Blues Jams, because there are few Jazz players where I live I mostly play solo Jazz. My guitars: '96 Guild X170, '03 Ibanez AF86, Fender '62 re-issue Strat ('88), and a '95 Epiphone Les Paul ES.
