Default New here and Introduction.

Hello all. I recently found out about this website and forum, been lurking and reading and figured it was time to join in. While I have been playing guitar for 10 years, I just started my Jazz journey. I'm really enjoying it, both listening and playing. So far, I have been listening to a lot of Herb Ellis, Pat Martino, Jim Hall, Barney Kessel, Tal Farlow and Wes. I also like some of the fusion stuff like Chris Poland, Scofield and especially Larry Carlton. This is like starting all over, but I am enjoying playing and learning more than ever.

I Got the "Ticket to Improve" and a few Chord Melody Instruction DVD's from Robert Conti and play/practice about 4 hours a day. I like the concept of actually playing Jazz while learning it. I just finished learning my first standard, the Joe Pass version of "Satin Doll". I can not play it very well right now, but that will change with patience and practice.

I'm hoping I fit in here and can learn a lot.

Welcome Bebop F.

I got the same DVD's too. I haven't worked on his "Ticket to Improve" but have completed "Since I Fell For You" , "Amazing Grace (found in Just Jazz Guitar.com) and currently working on "Danny Boy." I'm very comfortable with Conti's no bull approach - though he might raise some eyebrows of those that emphasize heavy theory before playing songs - particularly with his comments! If you've seen his DVD's you know what I mean.

I play, try to, chord melody a lot (favs are Yelin, Warnock, Galbraith) but enjoy learning bebop tunes by Bird, Dizzy etc and Gerry Mulligan too.
Can any of you kind jazzers out there recommend any resources (links and/or books etc) for playing chord melody of some of the great jazz guitar instrumentals (not ballads or such) such as Line for Lyons, Billie's Bounce, Take Five, etc - such resources would have a mixture of line/melody, vamps, chord voicings etc - Cheers, Pequod
