Default The getting to know you thread...

not sure if people will respond to this or not but here goes.

After reading on here on and off for a fair few months, you get to see who knows what and can get a decent impression of people. But after reading in some threads people play for a church group or they work as such and such, thought it might be nice to state a little bit about ourselves in this thread, obviously nothing too personal as we are a group of strangers on an internet forum, but here goes:

I'm 28, work in a library, aspiring to learn jazz. Blues, and especially acoustic blues is my first love but jazz is fantastic and I feel learning it would bring me so close to my instrument. Play in a band 'Broken Wheel' (http://www.myspace.com/brokenwheelmusic- the music on there is before I really got into jazz so it's pretty basic stuff). Love Tom Waits, John Martyn and Ry Cooder (my holy trinity for many years - although people like Joe Pass and Davy Graham are challenging for top honours). Sarcastic to fault - sorry, probably too reverential about people who know jazz inside out, don't mean to be, I just understand how committed you have to be to become a good jazz player. Ummm... that's about it I think. Oh yeah, I'm a Manchester City fan.

Now to practice my sight reading and Mickey Baker - which I'm currently putting off to write this

Hi DonnyK, those are some great players you mention, plus Tom Waits is pretty jazzy when he wants to be, and I suspect John Martyn would easily have cut it as a jazz guitarist if he had wanted to! I'm sure a lot of us on here are not complete "jazz purists" anyway... Welcome to the forum though!
