Default one child policy

Have you ever wondered what really happens to society when the government says "sorry one child only from now on"

Being one of 5 kids in the family it was great to have all the your siblings play games with you, but with one child many things happen, but this article is about "did the government realize they screwed up" anyway I always thought is was wrong to have the people in power tell you only one kid allowed. End results: China may miss last chance to tackle aging population

there's a few more articles there, I think you have to go to the main page and search from there.

Where I'm at the government is actually paying us to have kids. They know that one kid per family leads to a work force shortage in the future if anything. Plus few one child per family kids these days are not interested in helping in "old age care" so now they have to import their workforce for this part of the economy.

Actually many young adults only want one kid these days because of the very high cost of raising kids here.

I say, head back to the countryside , have many kids and enjoy the country life style, but recently many schools have closed due to no kids.
Wow, what's going on

can you share your opinion here

thanks

Same in the U.S. and it's been that way for a long time. They pay by giving tax exemptions and tax credits for having children. Not nearly as much as it cost to raise a child, never-the-less the U.S. does pay citizens to have children.

You get to deduct from income in 2009 $3500 per child, which might result in tax savings of around $1000 plus or minus depending on your income level. You can do that until your child is 19 years old. So it works out to about $18,000 per child that the U.S. pays citizens.

And this is not including child care tax credits which can be up to an additional $6,000 per year in tax savings!

It's approximately the same in sweden too, you get 'barnbidrag' (child support sort of) of about 100€ a month per kid, and kindergarten is really cheap stuff. Well, they must, the problems with shortage in the work force has begun to show, many elderly are retiring the upcoming years, and people have the wrong education - as compared to what is needed - so they have to search for high tech people in India to answer to the needs of companies. These are bad days financially, and people think at least twice before getting kids these days.
Tough times ahead, so it won't change I believe, not in the close future anyway.

Peace
Skei (the got a kid during better days one)

I think a more startling thing in China regarding kids is the rate that they allow foriegn adoptions. Since sons are obligated to take care of aging parents, daughters are much more likely to be adopted out.

60 minutes did a piece on this a year or two ago, and it is now to the point to where there are villages entirely of men. Some parents have stooped to kidnapping little girls in cities and taking them back to their rural village so their son will have a wife when he grows up.

They have eased the One Child policy in rural areas, and you can buy the ability to have another child, but that continent is not able to sustain the population it currently has. They have to import food annually to maintain. Something has to be done, but the question is, what?

I believe this is something is inevitable in any modern society. In modern society today, raising a child is a very expensive business. Moreover, people themselves have expectations and dreams that they will want to achieve and fulfill. In my country, having a child is so difficult as parents today don't even have the time to take care of them as parents spend the whole day working. In addition, you have to make sure that your child does not lag behind the rest of the children and make sure that he or she becomes an elite in the society or else the child will find it extremely difficult to make a living because everyone else is better. So not only does it take much monetary efforts to raise a child, it also requires a lot of commitments to groom him into an elite in the society. So, people favor few or no children because it is better to put all your effort into one than having many and yet not turning any of them into an 'elite'.

I believe this is a cycle. It is like a recession. As your economy booms, it will reach a peak someday and goes into a decline but recovering again. Perhaps one day, the world will face an overpopulation crisis and many will die due to lack of food and resources supplies. However, human beings have always come back stronger than ever and recovered from various adversities. So, it is a cycle that we must go through.

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure."

What would the Jackson 5 have been if they were from China? Does this thread have a secret jazz guitar question in it?

I see 8 separate threads that are meaningless to jazz.

Strange that there is much more objection and activity on the "Is This Music?" thread.

T/y Brian, your observation is duly noted. Why didn't I think of that?

Thanks! It's a feature on this forum I've completely overlooked. I think I'll start using it more. It certainly broadens the bandwidth of my computer time.
