Newbie! Howdy guit players!

I am new to this forum and new to jazz guitar. I have been playing upright bass professionally for 15 years. I play rockabilly, western swing, jazz and gypsy music.

I have been collecting jazz guitar and steel guitar records for about 20 years and finally took up the instrument last year. Its tough soloing--but I know all the chords and changes, right now I am a pretty good rhythm player..which is a valuable thing nowadays.

I like all the great players like Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, Wes, Johnny Smith, and Barney Kessel. I also like some of the more obscure players like Cal Collins and Lloyd Ellis, but my absolute favorites are Django, George Barnes, Howard Roberts, Jimmie Rivers and Hank Garland.

Hey Tom. Welcome to the site. It's a funny thing but I also started out as a bass player for those exact styles. We also share some of the same favorite players including the the more obscure players. About 1991 when I was stationed in Hawaii, I got a chance to see Howard Roberts play at a free concert in a music store. I was able to watch him work way up close. I tried to do the same stuff but it just didn't come out quite the same way as his work. Go figure.
