Those pages are from a book called "Metamorphosis, Transformation of the
Jazz Solo" By Sam Most .[I believe he was a jazz flutist on the West Coast]
The copy I have was published in 1980 by PMP [Professional Music Products Inc].....Appears to have been distributed by Belwin Mills.
I could offer more info about the book's contents if you want.

Thanks Flat!
In my buzzing about recognizing "Metamorphosis",
I must apologize for not greeting our new member....
So a big hello to setpatch, I'm sure you'll find much to
inspire here.
BTW, I've had the book since 1990....I'm one of those "write the
date of getting the book".....and my name...in every new acquisition guys.
I can't tell you how many
items I've lost over the years by lending material to students...you
know the sort of thing..."you're gonna really love this".....and they
waltz, watusi or whatever into the sunset.
I will go into the approach Sam Most [dig that name daddyo!] uses...
Maybe in a separate thread....But in brief, he takes the changes of
well known songs in the Jazz rep, and builds single lines starting with
half notes,[voice-leading them pretty nicely]
Then quarter notes [ mainly chord tones] Eighth notes [ditto]
Then 1/16ths..still predominantly chord/scale motion.
Then 1/3rds...then on to a syncopated line [all chord or scale tones]
Then double time with chromaticism and unusual leaps at times.
On and on ...the dude really develops/metamorphosizes...[is that a word?]
the solos using various approach note devices.....pentatonics...
bitonal lines....4th's......Man this is a helluva book and I think I should
go and practice it right now!
See what you stumbled on setpatch!

A good omen for your future guitar jazzing.
I wonder if it may be obtainium on Amazon etc....
If you can't track it down...perhaps I could help.
