Music Hello - Selling Vinyl on eBay

Greetings from an ageing Jazz fan in the U.K.
I have recently been clearing out the loft of my house to accomodate boxes full of stuff from my daughter's flat which she has just vacated. I re-discovered my vinyl record collection which has been up there since the 70's. Most of it consists of fairly common pop/rock albums and singles which are of little monetary value. However, I did find a few gems up there which are in mint condition, well at least the sleeves are because they've been stored in protective plastic cases.
Being the obsessive LP collector that I was in those days, I soon built up quite a large collection and so rarely played any of them more than half-a-dozen times before putting them into storage for 40-odd years.
I'm sure that there are many of you who have done the same.
Of course, at the time I wasn't intending to leave them stored away for 40 years, but I soon forgot about them when cassettes and CD's became available which took up much less space and could be played in mini hi-fi systems and car stereo players. Many of my LP titles were re-issued in these formats and I was only too happy to shell out money on these 'upgrades' which made it even less likely that I would want to bother going into the loft to search through dusty boxes of LP's to find a particular one to play.
So a few months ago, I decided to sell some of the more valuable LPs as I'm unlikely to play them ever again, secondly my taste in music has changed over the years, and thirdly I don't really get sentimental about music because there is so much new music to listen to and I'd die of old age (or boredom) even if I started going through my collection from now and played everything back to back.
I've already started advertising some on eBay UK but I'm not sure that this would be the best way to sell some of the rarer titles and so I'm holding fire on these until I have looked into other selling options and more importantly, until I have obtained a true valuation for each of them individually.
I've found various online businesses that buy and sell vinyl but generally you only get to see how much they sell for. I'm also aware that there is a skill involved in accessing the condition of a record and it's sleeve etc, although that shouldn't pose too much of a problem for me as even the untrained eye can determine that the majority of my collection is either in mint, nr mint, or excellent condition.
So I have joined the Forum to gain more information and hopefully a few tips on selling my Jazz records, and I look forward to scouring the forum history for the same, and would also welcome any useful tips or advice from knowledgable forum members.
I don't know if I'm allowed to quote an eBay link on this forum, so I won't chance incurring the wrath of the administrators by adding a link here to my sellers account, but if anyone would like to view some of the less valuable titles that I have already listed, my eBay UK username is loopyloopoo2.

Default old records on ebay

just watched a job lot of around 100 70,s lps selling for over £350 quite recently.Old jazz rock stuff, gentle giant, robert fripp, ect does not bad either.old obscure vertigo stuff can go over £100.I reckon you would get more from them selling on ebay, dealers will offer 1/3 of what they reckon they can get for them.Best idea is to keep checking ebay, type in a few individual lps and look at completed listings to see what they are selling for.L.ps are popular again, nothing sounds quite like them as a new generation are finding out.

Thanks for your advice. I have been surprised what some people will pay on eBay for something they really want. Some of the dealers and power sellers are advertising vinyl at ridiculous prices but they are very particular when describing the condition which is a good thing. Private sellers like me, need to be careful how we describe the condition of the items we are selling on eBay because I've noticed that the big dealers are very finicky about fine details which is only right if they are looking to buy of us to sell on at a profit.
Yeah, I agree with you that it's well worth checking completed listings to see if a particular item is popular or not and to get an idea of how much to ask for mine. I can see that I've got some homework to do.
