Help Hi everyone!

Hi everyone, this looks like a great site so i thought id join, ive been looking into starting jazz for a while im 17 and have only been playing 5 years. i normally play blues/classic rock but really want to get into jazz. although i would class myself as intermediate i would really like to start from the basics with this so could anybody help me with where to start?

Common questions. Do you learn well out of books? The Mickey Baker books are highly regarded and are talked about on these forums in some pretty extensive threads. Same thing for the Leavitt books, although those might take you longer to get off the ground with. Ideally you want to get a good jazz guitar teacher to guide you, especially through the first few critical months. Another possibility is o enroll in one of the online guitar institutes, like Jimmy Bruno, Andreas Oberg, Mark Elf, Rich Severson, Martin Taylor, etc.

Okay thank you, i will deifinatley check out the books. im also looking around for a teacher just depends on the prices. your reply helped a lot though so thanks man
