Default Newbie here!

Hey guys,

Simply wanted to say hi and thank you for being part of such an amazing place. I have been reading a lot of fascinating threads around here and figured that I might as well register and participate since this looks like such a great community.

To say a few words about myself, I am a 21 y.o law student from Montreal, Canada (yeah, where the weather is cold and the folks speak French) and I have been guitar consistently for about 8 years now. Like most kids my age, I was initially into Progressive Metal and other super technical stuff, trying to play as fast as I could. Yet, after a few years of mindless wanking in natural minor trying to sound like John Petrucci, I discovered jazz and fusion and have been completely obsessed with it ever since!

I would still not call myself a proper "jazz player" though since my level in the genre is far from top notch. Yet, although the task is rather daunting, I am doing my best to get better and it seems to be working out slowly but surely.

Anyway, I hope I will be able to put my (rather minimal) knowledge to good use on here and hopefully get better through your advice and directions!

Jazz on, and cheers.
-JR

Welcome to the forums!

If you want to learn about Jazz you are in the right place. There are many great players/teachers in here as well as many serious amateurs. The resources are many and the attitudes are splendid.

Go to Matt's site. It is in my signature. Look at the "Jazz resource" tab. He also has over 100 free lessons posted as well.

If you found soloing in natural minor technical you are in for a world of fun with Jazz.

Good Luck!
