Hello! Hi!
I'm new to jazz but not the guitar. Though this is my first serious foray into jazz, I've dabbled before.
Background: I went to undergrad in Nashville and am now a grad student in a (very) intellectual town in the Northeast. As an undergrad, I did the whole college bar band thing, as well as some folky stuff on the side. I played a few jazz tunes and went to the occasional jam but just sort of felt my way through it - I never really "got" it, you know?
In my new habitat, the jazz scene is well-developed while the pop/rock scene is a bit dry. Now seems to be a great time to really learn jazz.
In the long run, I'd like to get into fusion. I'm a huge Eric Johnson fan and want to really get my head around his stuff. Presently, I can play his music but would have never thought of his more complex lines. So that's the goal - the Gambale/EJ fusion stuff.
However, I'm learning jazz fundamentals first. After I begin to get my head around it, I'll make the transition into fusion.
That's the story!
