Default Hello from Montreal

Hi everyone.

Just a quick introduction of myself to the forum.

I have been lurking around for a while, and am most impressed by the cordiality and value of the posts. I came to jazz guitar after retirement and some fairly intense studies in classical contemporary composition. The attraction to jazz for me continues to be the challenge of improvising, which is essentially the same thing as composing in real time - a long way from the desk, where at the end of the day you can end up with less music than you had at the beginning.

A lot of technical work remains on my plate, but I am fortunate to be in a city which provides many good teachers, and a great opportunity for combo playing at a non-professional level in groups led by some of the best jazz players in town: this through a programme provided by one of the local universities.

This is my first post in the community, but I am looking forward to more as I get a bit deeper into it.

Nice to be here,
Alwayslearning

Thanks, guys, et merci, for your warm welcome to the forum. I enjoyed checking out the links in your replies, and am happy to see that Thomastik-Infeld seems a favoured string!

Cheers,
Alwayslearning
