Hi all,
this is my first post, it's 5:30 pm here in Milan...
My name is Antonio and I decided to become a better guitar player playing jazz starting from this brand new 2012.
I'll do my best as a middle age (44) dad can do: my experience has ever been scattering over the years and limited to chords and simple solos without beeing able to read music. But I have more time now and It seems I found the courage to learn to play something that fits my musical taste instead of something which is easier for me....
So, be patient with me! I'm honored to be here.
Hi, i'm mikky from Nigeria, here, most people learn guitar from the other side, but when i came i knew, all i've been playing was wrong, so i wanna start as a beginner... Firstly, how do i interprete the scale formulars
Take the C major scale and spell it out. Then build the chord of C major out to the 13th by building in thirds. For example:
C D E F G A B
Now starting with C, we take every other note and string them together like this.
C E G B D F A
The first of those 3 notes is the triad, C E G. we call this 1 3 5
When we add the 4th note we get the 7th. In this case C E G B is C Major 7th. When we add the remaining 3 notes we get the 9th, 11th and 13th.
It is important to know the intervallic relationship of these notes. There is nothing altered in this scale in the 1st position. The name of the mode would be C Ionian.
Now do this with the remaining 6 notes. Spell out the next chord starting on D, take it out to the 13th, then name them. Is this mode Major or minor? Are there any altered notes? This is the beginning of Chord Scale Theory.
