Help cort yorktown or hofner j17

Hello. I live in the uk in Cornwall. My local dealer let me try out some guitars today. I have been messing around with guitars for around 7 years or so.I love both jazz and blues and i play slide dobro normally. I fell in love with both the Cort yorktown and the hofner J17 archtop today, but my dilema is what is the best choice out of the two? They both get really good reviews in the press. Is one better for jazz and blues than the other? the cort really got my attention because it had that sort of Ike Issacs sound whereas the hofner seemed to be brighter but with more complex subtleties and overtones .... & I just really cant buy both. Neither can I make my mind up either. Anyone have any advice for me please? Thank you.

Hi Trevor, no! I have nothing to sell, just trying to be helpful. I am pleased you found something you like feel and the sound of, that's the main thing. I live near Trewoon so really quite close. This is a good place to start for chords

Help

Hello. Thank you for your reply. Im really so pleased to have bought my guitar and amp. A big thanks to Ian at the Music Technology store in town. Very helpful and very patient. What style of jazz do you play? Do you play blues too?How long have you being playing? Im hoping to have some lessons in the new year. My limits are my fingers are fairly stiff and I have short stubby fingers! LOL. Hopefully I can find a patient teacher.

Hi hope you are having a good holiday with plenty of time on the Cort, that will get the fingers working. I don't know if you have found a genuine Jazz guitar teacher yet, they are as rare as 'Rocking horse' droppings in Cornwall. Try the Jazz course at Truro College, Paul Hodder could be your man to get started with.
I have been playing for quite a while and only ever was interested in playing Jazz on the guitar so quite a steep learning curve for me. I was impressed by the sound of Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Joe Pass of course, Earl Klugh, George Benson, but I suppose If I had to be alone on a Desert Island with only one form of jazz to listen to I would go for Latin I just love the subtlety of the voicings and the rhythms.
As for blues there is a lot of great Jazz in the blues form.

Have a great 2012

Writing this has given me an idea for a general post 'Desert Island Jazz' what would you choose if you could only have one form with you to listen to.
