I'm a Newbie here..... howdy I've been slack about checking forums for a while, then suddenly found this one just now. Looking forward to hanging out, as life is settling a bit & I want to learn more & improve as a player.
Most of the guitars in my harem are custom made for me by Chuck Thornton, a luthier in Maine. I have all of his semihollow archtops as well as his solid bodies, and he is currently making the first of his new jazzbox series for me - The Improv. Should be ready about the end of summer. I've owned guitars since 1963, but it has only been in retirement that I've actually taken the time to learn to play well and to surround myself with the finest, most toneful guitars I could find. So, I've wound up with a harem that consists of a D'Angelico NYL-2, some Cp Thorntons, a PRS, a Fender Tele, some vintage G&L's, some acoustic Taylors, & a Martin.
I have a devoted wife who plays piano and who tolerates my guitar habit very well. I didn't say she understands it; she just tolerates it well. My son plays bass, my son in law plays acoustic guitar, and my 2 granddaughters both play acoustic guitars, too. My daughter plays no music instrument whatsoever. My performing is mostly in my music room; however, I have played in a few music events at our community theatre. I enjoy it, but mostly I just enjoy learning new licks & songs. I also enjoy writing and recording songs. I cannot imagine traveling & performing regularly as a career. But I really do enjoy guitars & being with the people who either make them or play them well.
I visit Chuck Thornton about every 6 months & could watch him build his masterpieces for days. Such an amazing instrument, the guitar. And in my opinion, Chuck builds the best ones on the planet. Apparently, quite a few other musicians & well respected reviewers for music magazines agree.
Reporting for duty; ready to learn.
