Well, our town has become a lot nicer to live in since the new Sheriff is around. Not as much gunslingers hanging around on the streets anymore
Thanks Mr. B

Newbie! EZ Rules

Sounds good to me. I'm new here and looking to buy a thinline acoustic electric. While I do play some jazz and standards, I also play country and 50's/60's oldies. I gig 3 to 4 times a week. I am not a great guitar player. Average at best. I am a decent singer and play enough keyboards to compose my own midi files. I do a one man band deal, with a ketron synthesizer. Iam currently using a Paul Reed Smith Semi Hollow SE Custom. I'm satisfied with it, but I want to get a nice sounding and playing thinlin acoustic electric. I did buy a Dean Jazz Stylist which is not bad for an inexpensive guitar. It sounds great but does not play great. I have been reading the reviews on the Eastman T185MX and everyone is singing it's praises. There are no dealers within 200 miles of me that catrry this guitar, so I would welcome any input from players who have experience with thei guitar, or the T 184MX, or T186MX. Besides size, I don't know what the differences are in these 3 guitars. Anyone?

Just for a bit of comic relief. "Horse Sense" (i.e., Common Sense) is explained as "the sense that horses have that keeps them from betting on people".

Cheers

This is how I was raised to treat people, (although I do remember one horrible slip of the tongue I had 15 years ago - still pains me to this day).

Ha! Ha! I have forgiven myself but remembering it helps keep me from mouthing off that way again.

But, God, when you are young you do and say all kinds of stuff that can unintentionally screw someone else. Like the car you dinged in the parking lot, the buddy you accidentally squealed on because you talked too much, or the use of terms that were OK in one circle but highly offensive in anothers, etc..

Young and dumb...(no offense met to younger forum members because there is also older and dumb!)

Young and dumb...you said it. And you can't regret it. The dumb things you did made you wiser. You have to fail before you succeed.

Default I did it

As a follow up. I did buy the Eastman T185MX. It arrived with a problem. The bridge PU is not working right. It seems it's in single coil mode, and has a buzz. The PUP has 2 rows of 6 screws, but one row isn't working. Still it plays like a dream and still sounds great. My criticisms of it are that it is not well suited to playing satanding up (which I do), as it's very unbalanced and head heavy. Also, the veneer is beautiful, but very thin and scratches and marks very easily. I think I made a mistake in buying this guitar. I love the playability and sound of the Eastman and am looking to change to an ElRey3, which is smaller and hopefully will feel more comfortable standing up. Also, with the wide variety of music i do, it may be more versatile in its sound. Anyone got any input on that axe?

Archtop bridges are held on by string tension--they're supposed to be movable--that's how you intonate.

You should start a new thread, it'll get more traffic...this is an older thread that was "stickied" because of the rules in the first post.

If the nut seems low on your guitar, I'd definitely get a new one cut by somebody good and get the whole guitar set up. It's amazing what a little setup work can do for an instrument.

Welcome aboard.

Mr. B.,

You've got to accentuate the positive,
Eliminate the negative,
And latch on to the affirmative,
Don't mess with Mister In-Between.

(but you already know that)

Default I wanted to say Hi from NY!

I just got a really sweet 1939 Vega Electrovox electric with one of the

first guitars with a factory humbucker pick up (Original to the guitar)

The guitar has a carved solid wood body, both top and bottom .

Plays great...low action ( 5/32 " at 12th fret, no buzz...never had a neck reset .... quite outstanding for a 73 year old guitar.

I just ordered a CD from Amazon..."The Immortal Charlie Christian" with Thelonius monk et AL

He is playing a Vega Electrovox with a humbucker like mine.....I thought he always played a Gibson ES150

Default Re: 1939 Vega

Further research proves it to be a 1936 Vega....with the lowest serial number I have found by an archtop....I'm still trying to find out if it actually has a 1935 serial number (Late)....

These Electrovox Vegas (Dual -Tone....)actually were first displayed in March 1936.....Gibson's ES 150 came out in May 1936.
