Check This Out! Hello from Russia!

Hello from Russia! I'm a newbie here, have never played Jazz seriously, just a little bit at a preparatory course in jazz college in Moscow. But it was a very long time... I don't remember, was it real or not? Now I'm 37 years old, do business and is far from music. Recently, one day, I felt that I want to play. This feeling was so strong that I went into the first shop and bought a very simple acoustic guitar (Cort) for 200 bucks. I also ordered here a study course "Play What You Hear" by Chris Standring.

Is it too late to start learning?

No way is it too late to start learning man as long as your prepared to put in some hard work you will be up and running in no time.Your in good company here so start asking questions,i guarantee you will get loads of help from the kind and very highly skilled people on here.Good luck and enjoy the ride.It would probably help if you could tell us all a bit about where you are level wise and also what you want to get out of music. Some people are happy just to strum a few chords where as others want to reach a professional level and are completely obsessed with jazz and music study,i am the latter as my wife will tell you.bye for now and peace man.

It is a good news from you, so I have to work. I appreciate my level as zero. I know how to play some seventh chords, can play a simple melody and harmony by ear, trying to improvise something. That's all. I think I need to learn the theory and learn a few musical themes entirely, for the practice of rhythm and phrasing. I definitely need to work a lot with rhythm, because I never did before. Ideally, I would like to learn to outplay the melody, let it through my heart, without thinking too long about where to put a finger or how to take a chord.

You say you know a few seventh chords, but do you know how they are made and how they are derived from the major scale,if not then this would be a good place to begin.Learn how to build a major scale and then how to harmonize it.The lessons on this site are a good place to start. But feel free to ask any questions you like as i am a theory junkie and would be glad to help if you like.
