Default Tom from Holland joins!

Hey
I'm Tom. I came across this site, and its so clear and good looking. I think I can learn a lot here. I've been playing the guitar for about 7 years now. I do know a lot about basic music theory, but not much about Jazz, though I really appreciate it. (I do play a lot RnB)
Two years ago I had kind of a setback, I majorly injured my left wrist. When it became clear to me that I couldn't play the guitar anymore, I was searching for other instruments to play. I picked up the chromatic harmonica. The harmonica alone didn't give me enough motivation to continue practicing.
So.. since last month I started to learn myself how to play the guitar left handed. I also started a blog. You can take a look if you want Mirror Guitar Playing
I'm posting progression, vids, sometimes lessons or just funny music compositions. Anything to keep me busy and keep my motivation high!

But I won't be on these forums a lot for the guitar, I'm still a left-handed noob, trying to get used to all the open chords.
I'll be here in hopes to learn a lot about jazz theory and apply it to my harmonica play. There aren't a lot harmonica websites, and the ones that exist aren't very popular.

Hi Tom,

Welcome aboard. I'm in Germany, so we're probably in the same time zone.

Your left-handed site looks interesting, thanks for the link. It must be a challenge relearning for "mirror guitar playing," but hopefully it will lead to some new discoveries for you.

Default Welcome Tom!

Tom, that's a really incredible thing your doing; relearning the guitar all over again. I give you a lot of credit. I think you will like this site a lot. The people are very friendly and knowledgeable. Best of luck, Andy

Welcome..... and good luck with it, Tom, I have an idea how hard it is.... my wife is a lefty and I taught her a bit of guitar. Takes some getting used to, but in teaching her, I ended up learning to play most of the open chords and barre chords left handed - but I can't imagine trying to make it sound good! Much respect for the effort....

No noo, crossharp that just applies to diatonic harmonica (right?). I'm really bad at bending notes. So I use the chromatic. By sliding into notes and like hammer-on (with the switch) I can bind the notes together. That plus reverb makes it sound smooth, but other than that I still have a lot to learn technique-wise.
My harmonica hero is Stevie Wonder no doubt haha.

No, I thought of that (so I could use my right handed guitars). But I think you would be limited at playing chords. And by flipping the strings its easier to adjust (mirror) from what I already know.
I did turn my right handed guitar upside down + flip the strings but I couldn't get it in tune. I don't notice when playing open chords, but the further I go to the bridge to more 'off' - tuned to notes become.

that's awesome tom, things in life happen and if we can figure out how to overcome the bad we become stronger. i've always wondered if i'd be a better player playing lefty, as i'm self taught i seem to stumble into dry spells so to say, anyway welcome and good luck, playing music makes me feel great and takes me away from where i am in the daily grind of life
