Music My new CD coming next month! (samples on website)

Hey everyone -- Mike Rood here

My new CD, The Desert and the City, is being released in April 2011! It features all original music of mine. You can hear exclusive samples from each song at my newly redesigned website, www.mikerood.com. Here is a very cool promo video for the CD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j40svNlExgU

I recorded the album with my quartet in early February at Avatar Studios in NYC, and I spent the rest of the month and the beginning of March mixing and mastering. It was an incredibly fun and intense time, and I am thrilled with the result. Bassist John Patitucci is writing the liner notes, and the album will be ready to be sent out for printing very soon!

The CD will be available for purchase at my website, and also at CDbaby, Amazon, iTunes, Napster, etc.

I hope you enjoy the samples on the website, and I look forward to the CD's official release!

I'd love to know what you all think!
Mike

Mike,

I really enjoyed the samples. I definitely want to pick up a copy of your CD when it comes out. Great playing. Original work and so much skill.

In going through your website one thing that jumped out at me was that you won the Nicolas Flagello piano competition. Nick's brother Ezio, who was a bass with the Metropolitan Opera, was a close friend of my family. Two brothers who were so immensely talented. I only had one oppurtunity to meet Nick; my Dad brought me by his studio when I was a teen and I remember being overwhelmed. Such a great composer. I'm sure that was no easy contest to win!

Welcome to the forum and keep up the good work.

Thanks Paul! We recorded live but all isolated (no overdubs). The band is Mike Bjella on sax, Alex Spradling on bass, and Goh Izawa on drums.

Bruce plays with a thumbpick and 3 fingerpicks, and I learned that technique from him (but I added a pick to my pinky, too!)

Thanks so much! I'll definitely announce when it is released.

That's wild that you know the Flagellos -- the engineer who mixed this album (Doug Epstein) actually knew them as Nicolas' wife was his music teacher in elementary school. Small world for sure!
