Guitar New Jazz Player in NY

Hey All
Look forward to learning lots from you guys in the time ahead.
Just beginning in jazz and will be looking for some advice on a new archtop. Have a 51 Nocaster, Gene Parson Custom Tele Bender, Martin D28 and a Northfield F style mandolin.
Been playing for decades, ranging from country to reggae to blues.
Totally psyched about learning jazz properly.
Any suggestions to begin with?
CM

Get over to Manny's or Rudy's on 48th St. and test-run everything! There's a small store on (I think) 20th or 21st and 8th that's got great prices on hollowbodies; and they'll let you play for hours. You can try GuitarCenter on 14th but I doubt if you'll be able to hear anything over the shredders. New Jersey has some really good stores. Get a copy of Vintage Guitar, they all advertise there.

Youtube has loads of Jazz Guitar players and lessons that can get you started and decide what kind of jazz you prefer.

Default NYC Boy

I was born (Flower Hospital on 5th Ave) raised, lived, worked, and retired from Manhattan. I now live in Florida. I meant to add to the last post...
There's a video on Youtube where Joe Pass is playing a Jazzmaster or a Tele, I can't remember. As with anything else: It's not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean.
With the right amp and settings, and strings, you can get "The" sound.

Thanks, all.
I know the tele is quite versatile and the "sound" can be got from it (see Bill Frisell and Jim Campilongo, for example).
Just really interested in getting a new guitar (who among us isn't? hehe)
Talk soon

Default FYI - Manny's is closed.

Manny's was bought out by Sam Ash and is now part of the Sam Ash set of stores on 48th street. Definitely check our Rudy's, but I also suggest Mandolin Brothers, if you are willing to take a trek to Staten Island.
