Default New Jazzer in Cork, Ireland

Hi Everyone,

I have been playing guitar a while but have only recently dared to play a few jazz tunes. If anyone in Cork wants to have a jam just PM me or send me an email. I am happy to comp along while you stretch your fingers. I have a copy of the Real Book so am happy to learn or play any number from that book. I am based in the Wilton/Bishopstown area.

My jazz influences so far include Ted Greene ( I'd love to do more chord melody ) and Antonio Carlos Jobin as well as Earl Klugh ( those are the only jazz CD's that I have ).

Ok, I'm looking forward to hearing from a few people.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcomes.

I got a reply to my post and am leaving for a live session in about 1/2 hour. I haven't played live, apart from at a local toddler group ( ha ha ), in over 15 years. I only have an acoustic atm so not sure if I'll play any tunes ( I'm left handed ) but Mrs Liarspoker is heading to Dublin in the middle of March so I may tag along and go on a sightseeing trip along the music stores for a nice electric or semi-acoustic.

I've been reading the website and there's a lot of great stuff on here. I'll be a regular. :O)

FWIW - I was practising Ted Greene's Single Note soloing Vol 2 as well as tunes from his beginners jazz book by Jody Fisher. After reading some posts here I have decided to go back to basics and learn the chords and melody ( in different keys ) of a chosen song first. When I then go to work out a solo I will use the melody and make a few variations on it. Like I said I have the Real Book so hopefully that's the only book I'll need.

Here is a little tune that is based on a Ted Greene chord progression ( though it sounds more classical than jazz ): YouTube - ‪Slow Acoustic Jazz Blues in C‬‏
