Default Greetings from deepest darkest Derbyshire

Hello to one and all.

I am terribly impressed with this forum. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly people indeed. I have been captivated by quite a few of the discussions.

For my own part, I have been playing guitar since 1985, but not particularly well. For the last few years I have been flirting with jazz which has made most other guitar seem far too repetitive and uninventive. So now I'm hooked on it. Joe Pass is a firm favourite. I adore his walking bass comping, and he had such a beautifully humble sense of humour.

The other guitarist who sets me aflame is Kenny Burrell, especially his blue jazz: almost a dangerous edge to it.

Currently saving up for an Epi 175 (don't tell the wife!) My two current guitars can't quite get the tone, although the Ric copy through a bass amp isn't too far off.

Best wishes to everyone,
Rich

Welcome! Good to have you here.

Here's a great thread on the walking bass comp:

Couple of excellent vids in there and a pdf.

Good evening, Rich...
I'm sorry; I don't know how, but she read your post here. She said she's keeping the kids, but you can keep the dog...
No, just kidding (sorry, no malice intended...); welcome to the forum. Nice choice of guitar (ok, it's for the future...), and a Ricky, even a copy, is not a bad guitar at all, for jazz or other styles. Some even play tele's..!
There's a lot on this site (the forum, of course, but much else also...). Enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome, chaps. I shall have a look at the thread after finishing this reply.

I have contemplated putting heavier gauge strings on my Ric copy (it's made by a company called Indie, and is pretty decent quality.) But I got it for its jangly tone and general Sixties vibe - on a budget, of course.

I guess those ancient humans didn't like it in derbshire

according to wikipedia anyway.

lots of nice helpful people here, and good players.

Thanks again.

Wow! I'm impressed that you can play the Midnight Blue tunes, Pierre. I've managed to grab a few licks here and there at best. Wouldn't mind looking at a tab one day.

As regards the ancient humans, Mark, judging by some of my neighbours I suspect the visit 200,000 years was not a very short one.

Hi, Banksia. I cannot bite my tongue any longer: I find your observation uncannily close to a theory of my own. It's always nice to encounter another exponent of anthropology.
