Default New guy from Alaska

Hello from Alaska!

I am more of a strait chord melody player. Every now and then I add a little spice from my limited bag of harmony knowledge but mostly I like to arrange things that myself and others enjoy hearing!

I play the big four guitar types: Strat (favorite,) Tele, Les Paul and a Jazz Box (ES-175) through a Tweed Champ or a Tweed Deluxe based clone called a Valvetrain Trenton.

Hoping this site will get me more excited about playing and less focused on equipment. I love gear but it has the effect of being very distracting to me!

I am looking (as most of us are) to increase my options for improvization, chord melody and comping! This looks like a great resource!

Anyway, greetings!

Here is a video to give an idea of where I am at. Sorry in advance to jazz traditionalists for the effect!

Well, I'm kind of a jazz traditionalist. I don't mind effects to a point. I thought there was a little too much here. The swells in the modulation were a little distracting, but that also could have been the recording.

I liked it, a fresh take. I wish I could have heard more of the melody on the bridge. I think that they melody could have connected a bit better on the intro (but it makes sense that it gets a little disjunct once you get into the funk stuff.)

But that's nitpicky stuff. Nice job.

Peace,
Kevin

I agree. I never play like this. I was working on the tune and threw the switch on a uni-vibe that I used to own and it happened. I thought is was interesting so I threw it up. It does sound different from any way I have heard it played before for sure!

The rubato intro was more to show the effect at a slower tempo. It kind of has a whole different sound once the tempo is increased. But yeah, there is enough underwater stuff happening in that clip to drown you! Thanks for the comment.

Hey Ken welcome to the group. I would say that's shakin up the rainbow a bit. Fun take. Not sure where you could get away with playing it that way, but I enjoyed it.

Glad you enjoyed it! Actually many non-guitarists/musicians like it quite a bit. One lady wants it for her ring tone on her phone.

I always try and remember why I play in the first place...FUN! I am not interested in payment for services rendered. I enjoy playing for people but I don't like doing it as a business. I like to progress and expreiment along the way, enjoying the ride!
