Default Check this U-NAM out

Hi all, Just joined the community, and looking forward to a wonderful sharing of experience in Jazz music with you all. I play jazz guitar and hope to take it further. Hey, have you checked this U-Nam guy out? Heard him the first time on radio and boy the guy is good.

Hello rfatjuni and welcome to the site. I hadn't heard of U Nam but I found his Myspace page. I'm listening to one of his tracks now - Street Life. It's sounds like mid-70s Lee Ritenour, only duller.

Hello Banksia, I also had never heard of U-nam before. Just recently heard his wonderful instrumental rendition of "TURN YOUR LOVE AROUND", by George Benson and I was impressed.

The guy can play, but I also think it's kind of a blast from the past. Kind of retro-smooth jazz. I'm not saying it's bad, just that it's nothing new. But it looks like he's doing better than me, so what do I know.

If you like it, go for it - you should play what sounds good to you instead of what other people think is "cool."

Welcome to the group.

Peace,
Kevin

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate your comment. Quite agree it's nothing new, just appreciating good music.

Yeah Benson is mostly the originator of that style.

I'm not a Jazz Player , actually but I do run changes and am interested in "HarmonicallY Expanded " music like Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder did.

Years ago I listened to a lot of Benson and changed my picking style to get more articulation largely becuase of listening to him.

Benson is an amazing soloist who can really turn it on when he wants - and his sense of Time is way funkier than most Jazz Guitarists IMO.
