| | New to this forum (and forums in general) Hi,
I've been playing music for the last 32 years. Started as a guitarist, picked up keys a few years later, and recently introduced myself to bass. A T-sax is waiting, a friend of mine will have time later this year to teach me the right mouth technique. I also plan to pick up djembe and other percussions.
I don't read music, play by ear, have a poor technique and am somewhat limited due to a motoric dysfunction, nothing bad, but I will never be a virtuoso (although my girlfriends of long ago believed I was...)
I have always played pop, rock, latin and so on, and have just recently decided to add jazz to the palette. This is due to my activity as the treasurer/bartender/gopher/DIYer/whateverelse... of the jazzzolder in Mechelen, Belgium, Jazzzolder : Jazz in Mechelen, België
FAQ about me (at least, answers) : I am Michel, 46, happily married, no kids that I know of, other important things in my life are cats, cigars, single malt, sailing and DYIing. I am fluent in Dutch, French and English and live in Vilvoorde.
Thanks for your valuable time (you could have played music...)
Yours
Michel

| | Hi Paul & Everyone Else!
This is my first post here. Age-wise, I'm 3 years behind you Paul and have been playing since 1962. I've always loved Jazz, since I was in my teens, but the main attraction was always Chicago blues. Over the years I have been listening to an increasing amount of jazz to the point where now it's practically the only music I listen to. I think what tipped the scales (no pun intended) was Pat Martino. He has the same effect on me that Eric Clapton had when I saw him live with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers back in 1966 when I was 15. As far as playing jazz is concerned, I'm still a beginner but I've found that listening to Charlie Christian (in some ways he's more pentatonic-based) to be a great help for a blues guitarist in getting into jazz playing. Also, I have transcriptions of Charlie Parker's bebop heads and they have helped me a great deal (Ornithology, etc.). I have recently bought an Ibanez AF105NT and a Peerless Wizard. I've put 13s on both and the results are amazing. I'm very happy with these two guiatrs. For amplification I'm using a Peavey Classic 50 and a Music Man 210 65W. |

| | For Nine Acres Hi,
I love Chicago Blues and one of my freinds in Charleston SC has a band that plays a lot of Chicago Blues tunes..Shrimpcityslim and think that may be his website..Gary Irwin..Actually one of my good freinds used to be the bassists in the band.
I'll check out the particular Ibanez that you shared and see what it is like. I played a couple at a store in Statesboro Ga., about 50 miles from me and the one I was most impressed with was a Washburn single pickup but dont remember all the details of what it was. I will play many many jazz style guitars before make my decision. I did play three of the Ibanez's at the store tho, and they were pretty nice.
I have seen Clapton 3 times over the years, and still love his music, and Santana's. But this thing with the jazz has been overpowering me for years, and that is why I am burning to play it..Since I'm on disability I have lots of time to work now. Only negative is I have no one here to play with, and with me having to walk with Crutches, it's harding asking family members to load my equipment and having others to help unload and load back.
One of my other friends in my home town of Walterboro SC, used to have a music man and I loved it. He sold it to someone before I knew he was even thinking of selling it. Another freind had the same Peavey as you and loved it..
All I have is a Mesa Boogie 50 calibre + that I bought in 92. I mostly use my PRS Single Cutaway to work my jazz and have an 87 Fender Blackie Style Strat that I use. I do play a lot of music on my Taylor NS 32, and I'm trying to learn Brazillian as well as other contemporary jazz tunes.
Books that I saw Dierk advertise I had already bought before I saw him recommending them.. Well I have the Brazillian Jazz book and varous artists book cd, with Mike Christiansen and others playing jazz. Im working on Moonlight in Vermont at the moment, and Corcovado in the Brazillian Book.
Thanks for taking time to write,
Paul Bone
